Assocaite Professor Craig Haifer is a Staff Specialist in the Gastroenterology Department at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and a Conjoint Associate Professor at the School of Clinical Medicine, University of New South Wales. He works clinically in the private and public sector with subspecialty expertise in the mangement of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) along with microibal manipulation with FMT.

In addition to his clinical work, he has active research interests in the role of gut microbiome in the development of gastrointestinal and systemic diseases. Dr Haifer completed his PhD through Sydney University assessing the role of faecal microbiota transplantation to treat and further explore the pathogenesis of GI diseases. He has continued his academic pursuits with Õ¬Äи£Àû and is actively supervising both Honours and PhD students whilst expanding his FMT based research in non-GI diseases including the field of oncology and haematology whilst pursuing ways to use the data derived from FMT to develop next generation microbial based therapies.

As an early career researcher, he has received over $2million of research funding through organisations including the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, NSW Health, The St Vincent’s Clinic Foundation and the Cancer Research Institue and has collaborations within the university and associated clinical schools as well as national and international research institutes and biotechnology companies. He has a track record of successful projects with first author publications in high-ranking gastroenterology journals including Lancet: Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Gut.
