Artist statement

¡® I peer into Î÷ºþ(West Lake) searching for the reflection of my ancestors¡¯ is a ¡¯ , collection of sculptural paintings which respond to theorist Stuart Halls¡¯ understanding of culture as ¡°exceedingly slippery, vague and amorphous¡± (Hall, 1983) . onto distended calico supports, Mei Lin peers into the half Through layering familial imagery formed and murky histories that accumulate to form identity. The amorphous works are in a perpetual state of flux, both revealing and hiding aspects of the self.
